Abstract

Thermoplastic based polymer materials are already represented in many tribological applications due to their good dry sliding behaviour, though high temperatures drastically limit the possible loads. This study investigates a filler material whose action is triggered by the heat development in the contact interface. The resulting chemical transformation of the filler actively counteracts surface interactions that would otherwise lead to excessive wear. The tribological tests clearly show the potential of this type of filler to broaden the range of application of polymer based compounds.
